An Authentic Father’s Day Activity
I wanted to do something out of the box for Father’s Day, so I thought it might be kind of cool to ask the kids if they had any questions for him. Maybe there was something they wanted to know but never asked.
I told them to think about it for a couple of hours and let me know and here’s what they came up with and Brian’s answers. I was pretty impressed with their inquiries. And like the last interview with Brian, the answers are just as he said them.
I then asked each of the kiddos to share their most memorable moments with their Dad. This post will be the first time Brian learns of their memorable time with him. :)
Kendall Question #1
How did you bond with your dad?
Brian: We bonded over baseball. My dad coached my little league team.
Kendall Question #2
Looking back, what would you have done differently as a father?
Brian: I would have planned more slip-offs. I would have spent more one-on-one time chatting. More father-son trips. And more exposure to career/college activities. (Slip-offs is a term my grandfather, William Mac Wilburn, Sr. coined. He would grab me or one of my brothers and take us with him on an errand. He would say really softly so no one else in the house would hear, “let’s slip off. We loved it because we’d usually end up getting ice cream.)
Kendall’s Most Memorable time with Dad was when they went to Atlanta in 2021 to visit his Alma Mater, Morehouse. “We hung out and ate at really good restaurants.”
William Question #1
Were you nervous to be a dad?
Brian: Yes because that meant that I had to take care of wifey AND kids. And I wanted to be able to teach valuable lessons.
William Question #2
What was it like to see your first born?
Brian: It was the most exciting and scary moment with an overwhelming experience of love. Really one of the best days of my life. Exhilarating, exciting, joyous and then thinking, we got a human to take care of now.
William’s most memorable moment with Dad was when we were on vacation in Cancun and “Dad and I were chillin’ poolside while the waitstaff brought us quesadillas and bevs.”
Alliyah Question #1
If you could go back, would you choose the same path in college?
Brian: I would have looked into medicine more. I used to want to be a dentist. I also would have taken more chances and became an entrepreneur sooner.
Alliyah Question #2
What has been your favorite Father’s Day celebration so far?
Brian: Breakfast in bed and then to the Playboy Jazz Festival.
Alliyah’s most memorable moment with Dad was back in pre-school when it was lunch with Dad day. “Everyone’s daddies were there but mine and I was starting to get sad but then Dad showed up with McDonalds and we sat on a blanket under a tree and ate together.”
We couldn’t ask for a better dad. You’ve been responsible, loving, you’ve taught lessons, kept the kids in line, been encouraging and supportive, you’ve been an example of hard work and commitment. Thank you!
Happy Father’s Day!
We Love You!
You can record the interview in a card or book. It will be something they all can cherish for years to come.
